The Evolution of the Upright Spine

Throughout the eons of evolution, remarkable changes in the structure of the spine have enabled bipedal locomotion. The structural and functional characteristics of the human spine are markedly different from those of our evolutionary ancestors; this allows for an upright vertical organization which, in turn, provides freedom of movement in all planes of motion.

Rotational Dynamics in Gait

This unique organization facilitates rotational movements around a vertical axis, making turning and rotation extremely energy efficient. These movements are also paramount for maintaining equilibrium while walking, acting as a “spring-loading” mechanism during the propulsion phase of the gait cycle. In this advanced training, Raz Ori will present an in-depth examination of the functional relationships between upright organization, spinal rotation, and walking efficiency.

Practical Application and Integration

The Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons presented will specifically explore patterns that exemplify the connection between rotation and extension, and the integration of these patterns into walking. Raz will provide practical tools to help you detect missing rotational movements in your students, allowing you to potentiate greater efficiency in your Functional Integration lessons.

Please note:

While this course covers both ATM and FI, a practice partner is not required. Raz will demonstrate FI, which we will then analyze and discuss, providing a foundation for your own practice following the program.

This webinar will take place live via the online conference software "Zoom". It includes lessons in Awareness through Movement (so-called "ATMs"). Please make sure that you have a mat or blanket available for the exercises when the class begins. A flat pillow (for example a towel) is also advisable, just make sure it is not too thick or too soft.

You can participate in the webinar using a computer, tablet or smartphone, your camera and microphone do not need to be turned on to participate.
Please register for the webinar by clicking the "REGISTER NOW" button.

Once you have paid the registration fee, you will receive a confirmation email with your personal link for attending the webinar. Please save this link and do not share it with others.

If you are using Zoom for the first time, you will be asked to install the Zoom software or app. This is advisable for a smooth running of the session. Please allow 10 to 15 minutes for the installation of the Zoom software/ app.
